Gage in Greece
Gage Brymer, touring pro, former UCLA standout and former number one junior in the USA, details life on the tennis tour as he embarks on his professional career...
Hello all,
After nine long months of recovery and preparation, I’ve finally hit the road on the ITF Futures Circuit to kickstart my professional tennis career. Over the next two months, I will be playing seven Futures events, five on the Greek Island of Crete followed by two in the Egyptian city of Sharm El Sheikh.
So far, Greece has proved to be beautiful and wet. Since arriving in Analipsi, a small town just outside of Heraklion and the home of all five events, we’ve experienced three days of sporadic showers.
Fortunately, the 11 outdoor hard courts at the tournament hotel, Lyttos Beach, are accompanied by six clay courts that I am able to practice on until the weather decides to cooperate. Today is the last day of forecasted rain and I’m hoping to get three solid days of hard court practice in order to adjust to the surface before the start of the first tournament on Saturday.
My dad and I have been staying in an apartment within walking distance from the courts. Tomorrow, we will relocate to Lyttos Beach, which will be our home for the next five weeks.
All the best from Greece,
Gage
