Gew up in Seal Beach, California, where he started tennis at age 7 at Laurel Park in Los Alamitos, CA. Immediately I loved tennis and started competing in tournaments at age 8. As a junior, he was known for his endurance, quickness, heavy topspin shots and consistent style of play. Now aged 34, he brings over 26 years of playing experience and 15 years of teaching experience to the program. Achievied a top 10 rank in Southern California and a national rank in the top 20.
John really cares about his students' improvement. With a heavy emphasis on efficient movement, strengthening the mental game, and developing sound technique, John is highly motivated to help you achieve your goals in tennis, no matter what your age or level of ability.
Notable moments in John's junior career:
Won two national tournaments, placed 3rd in Copper Bowl
Won CIF Division I championship with Los Alamitos High School
Notable wins over top juniors, including John Isner, current USA ranked #1, at the USTA National Hardcourt 16 and Under division
John's coaching career started at age 18:
Graduated from Ivy League school University of Pennsylvania
Taught junior summer camps at El Dorado, Laurel Park, Billie Jean King, Seal Beach Tennis Center, University High School, and Great Park
Taught internationally (Singapore) at The Sail
2014-16, coached Cypress High School Varsity Boys to a 9-9 tie in the 2015 Division III finals, then won the Division III championship the following year
2016-2018, coached University High School JV to two consecutive undefeated seasons
